ABOUT ME
My name is Rita Almeida and I am a Portuguese translator with over 10 years of experience, working as a freelancer as well as in-house with translation agencies.
When I work on a translation project, my main focus is to meet the specific needs of the customer. First of all, I try to understand the purpose for the text (work area, target audience, type of material, etc.) in order to guarantee that the final translation is of the best quality and perfectly suited for the intended purpose.
In addition to this, I make use of modern tools in carrying out my work, ensuring that the correct terminology is used, in accordance with the customer’s preferences, which also results in a greater consistency between different projects. This requires the use of software specifically developed to aid translation, plus up-to-date dictionaries appropriate for the subject matter of the text.
In conjunction with the technical and linguistic skills required to ensure the accuracy and consistency of the projects, it is equally important for the translator to have certain informal qualities. These include having good sense and being flexible, cordial, and capable of dealing with various projects and customers at the same time.
Along with my profession as translator, I have taught English and Portuguese for almost 10 years. My experience covers various levels of teaching (from basic to advanced), and includes all types of groups (children, youth, adults, company courses). At the present time I give group and private lessons.
